Order

We have about 30 goats left in our breeding herd. They include Nubian, Boer and Saanen.
We generally use Nubian and Boers for our meat sales.
Since we have downsized out herd, we will need about a week or two
to have your order processed, for you. Please keep this in mind when you place your orders.
Thank you for shopping at Silverstreams.

We carry a variety of basic goat meat. You can chose between frozen cuts,
ready to be picked up for your BBQ
or fresh. As you can imagine we need some notice if you would like fresh, unfrozen meat, as we need to make the neccesary arrangements.
Frozen meat can be picked up in any amount, while fresh, unfrozen meat is suitable if you would like to have a 1/2 or whole animal.
All meat is processed at a government inspected facility.
We can also arrange for meat to be processed in a Halal facility.

Good For Your Health

Goat meat is 50%-65% lower in fat than similarly prepared beef, but has a similar protein content. The US department of Agriculture also has reported that saturated fat in cooked goat meat is 40% less than that of chicken, even with the skin removed.

Goat meat has less fat than chicken or any of the red meats and tastes somewhat like beef. It has no game taste. Young goats taste similiar to veal.

Goats tend to deposit their fat internally before they deposit it externally. When a goat is slaughtered, this internal fat is removed along with the rest of the "innards". A well conditioned goat does have a tiny coating of fat over its muscles that helps keep the meat from drying out rapidly. Goats do not marble (intersperse fat within their muscles), thus, goat fat along a cut of meat is usually easily trimmed. Although goat meat is low in fat, studies have indicated that this fat contains a higher percentage of cholesterol than chicken or beef fat. However, these same studies have concluded that goat meat is much lower in saturated fats than the rest of the commonly consumed meats including chicken with the skin off. It has an excellent ratio of polyunsaturated to saturated fats making it a very healthy choice of meat.

We will probably see consumption of goat meat increase as more and more people are introduced to its excellent qualities. Because of its low fat content, goat meat can lose moisture and toughen quickly if cooked at high temperatures and under dry conditions. Goat meat is usually cooked slowly to moderately and is often marinated first or cooked in a sauce. One easy marinade is to soak the meat in beer and a 1/4 cup of lemon juice. If you eat meat and have never tried goat meat, we urge you to try it!! ENJOY!!
